  • The Generosity of Car Enthusiasts

    October 26, 2009
One of the amazing “ah-ha's” I have had since I started the www.CarShowCentral.com website is recognizing the great generosity of car enthusiasts everywhere. It is very amazing and heartwarming to see the large number of Car Shows that donate their proceedings to various national and local charities and community outreach programs. I recently reviewed each of the over 300 car show on my site, and I found that well over 30% of those car shows have listed a specific charity that they are donating either all or a portion of their procedures towards.
  • Car Show Attendee Etiquette: Six Rules for Enjoying a Scratch Free Car Show

    August 14, 2009
I recently returned from a fun-filled car show with my shiny black Mustang GT, I pull into my garage and got ready to put my car under its custom fitted car cover, only to discover a couple of new scratches on my paint, plus a sticky, gooey full handprint on the front fender. How did all these scratches get on my cars? Who left their sticky gooey handprint all over my car?
  • The "dessert" of the car show buffet

I love to attend car shows with my family. It is great to walk around and see each of the cars, all shined-up and looking good. But, there is more to a nice ride other than the outward looks. As they say, it is what’s on the inside that really counts… One of those most-important “inside” qualities is how the car sounds. In my book, that is one of the most critical aspects of having an all-around great show car. Although it may not be part of the judging criteria, it is one of my criteria for an overall great car.

    Enjoy the ride..
A couple of years ago, I bought a cherry, 1967 red Mustang. It was a fun car to drive, and was certainly in good enough shape to enter a car show. But, the hard part was actually finding some car shows in my area...
  • You Sold What for a Pinto!!!

Oh, the stupid things we do when we are young.
Well, it was 1973, and I was getting ready to get married. The price of gas was getting higher. It went from $.33 per gallon all the way up to $.55 per gallon, and I was going to become a family man. There were gas shortages, lines at gas stations, and rationing of gas. I was going to have responsibility. I needed to be able to support my family. How could I be so immature and irresponsible as to keep my sports car...

The "dessert" of the car show buffet

The “dessert” of the car show buffet…

I love to attend car shows with my family. It is great to walk around and see each of the cars, all shined-up and looking good. But, there is more to a nice ride other than the outward looks. As they say, it is what’s on the inside that really counts… One of those most-important “inside” qualities is how the car sounds. In my book, that is one of the most critical aspects of having an all-around great show car. Although it may not be part of the judging criteria, it is one of my criteria for an overall great car.

Which is why I seem to enjoy the end of a car show as much as the rest of the car show. I love to stand there and listen to the cars start-up and slowly rumble out of the car-show area.   To hear that sweet music of a fine-tuned car, with just the right rumble, not too loud, and certainly not wimpy, is really the icing on top of the show car cake.   I am partial to the muscle cars with the nice rumble as they slowly drive by. It is also fun to see who is driving the cars, and seeing if the people match the type of car.

So, while it is fun to walk around and look at all the silent cars, sitting pretty and shining in the sun, the real dessert to a nice car-show buffet is the end of the show, when things get loud, and the shining beauties are put into gear.   Missing this part of the car show would be like forgetting to eat the pumpkin pie after a great Thanksgiving dinner. Plus, this type of dessert doesn’t add any weight!
